Major Crash Shuts Down All Northbound Lanes on I-95 in Fort Pierce; At Least One Airlifted

Michael T. Flanagan, Esq.

A serious multi-vehicle crash caused major disruption on Interstate 95 North near Mile Marker 135 early Tuesday morning, July 29, 2025, completely blocking all northbound lanes and resulting in at least one person being airlifted with injuries.

According to reports from the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) and St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office (SLCSO), emergency crews responded to the scene shortly after 7:29 a.m., just north of the Okeechobee Road exit. The severity of the crash prompted immediate closure of all lanes on the northbound side of I-95, leading to significant traffic congestion throughout the morning commute.

The St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that one person sustained serious injuries and was airlifted from the scene by emergency medical helicopter. No further information has been released regarding the number of vehicles involved, the cause of the crash, or the condition of other individuals at the scene.

Aerial and traffic camera footage showed heavy emergency presence, with FHP troopers, paramedics, and fire rescue personnel working swiftly to secure the area and attend to the injured. Florida 511 first reported the crash shortly after it occurred, and subsequent updates confirmed the closure of all lanes by 7:40 a.m.

Crashes involving multiple vehicles on major highways such as I-95 often involve complex liability issues, especially when serious injuries or life-threatening trauma is involved. Under Florida law, injured victims may be entitled to compensation for medical expenses, lost wages, pain and suffering, and future care if negligence played a role in the collision.

Negligence in highway crashes can stem from several factors, including:

  • Distracted or reckless driving
  • Speeding or unsafe lane changes
  • Fatigue or impairment
  • Mechanical failures or tire blowouts
  • Improper merging or tailgating

The Florida Highway Patrol will conduct a full investigation to determine the contributing causes of this crash, including the potential role of driver error or equipment malfunction. Victims and their families are advised to preserve any documentation and seek legal counsel early to protect their rights.
