The Dangers of Wrong-Way Driving
Wrong-way crashes are among the most dangerous types of motor vehicle accidents.
These collisions often result in:
- High-speed, head-on impacts
- Severe or fatal injuries
- Multiple vehicles being involved
Because drivers are traveling in opposing directions, there is little opportunity to avoid the crash.
Common Causes of Wrong-Way Crashes
Investigators will work to determine what led to the wrong-way driving. Common contributing factors include:
- Driver impairment (alcohol or drugs)
- Confusion or disorientation
- Poor signage or roadway design
- Fatigue
Legal Considerations in Wrong-Way Crashes
Wrong-way crashes often involve clear liability, but investigations still examine:
- Whether impairment or negligence was involved
- Road conditions and signage
- Actions of all drivers involved
In multi-vehicle crashes, liability can extend to multiple parties depending on the circumstances.
Compensation for Victims and Families
Victims injured in serious crashes—and families of those killed—may be entitled to compensation for:
- Medical expenses
- Long-term care
- Pain and suffering
- Wrongful death damages
These cases can be complex, especially when multiple vehicles are involved.
Investigation Ongoing
The Florida Highway Patrol continues to investigate the crash and has not yet released further details.
