Woman Killed in Hit-and-Run Crash on I-95 in Lake Worth
A woman was tragically killed early Friday morning in a hit-and-run crash on Interstate 95 in Palm Beach County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The fatal incident occurred shortly after 3 a.m. on March 13, 2026, along Interstate 95 near the 10th Avenue North exit in Lake Worth Beach.
The crash caused all northbound lanes of I-95 to shut down for several hours while investigators processed the scene.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the victim was standing or walking in the outside center lane of northbound I-95, approximately 100 feet south of the 10th Avenue North overpass, when she was struck by a northbound vehicle.
Investigators say the driver failed to stop after hitting the pedestrian and fled the scene.
A witness reported seeing a small four-door sedan strike the victim, but authorities have not yet confirmed the vehicle involved.
Following the initial impact, the woman was run over by additional vehicles traveling along the interstate.
Emergency responders arrived at the scene, but the victim was pronounced dead at the location of the crash.
Authorities have not yet publicly identified the victim, who was described as a Black female.
Troopers attempted to identify her using RapidID technology but were unsuccessful. Officials say the victim had no identification and no visible identifying markings.
Her fingerprints have been submitted to the Palm Beach County Medical Examiner’s Office for identification.
The crash led to a complete closure of all northbound lanes of Interstate 95 near the 10th Avenue North exit as investigators documented the scene.
Traffic cameras in the area were temporarily taken offline while authorities processed evidence.
The closure created significant traffic backups during the early morning commute, forcing drivers to exit the highway and find alternate routes.
The roadway reopened around 7:12 a.m., more than four hours after the crash was reported.
Hit-and-Run Accidents in Florida
Hit-and-run crashes involving pedestrians are among the most tragic types of traffic incidents.
Under Florida law, drivers involved in crashes resulting in injury or death must immediately stop and remain at the scene to render aid and contact authorities.
Leaving the scene of a crash involving death is a first-degree felony in Florida and can carry severe criminal penalties, including lengthy prison sentences and license revocation.
Unfortunately, when drivers flee the scene, it can delay emergency medical response and complicate efforts to identify victims and gather critical evidence.
Legal Options for Families After Fatal Hit-and-Run Crashes
When a pedestrian is killed in a hit-and-run crash, surviving family members may still have legal options to pursue compensation through civil claims.
Potential sources of compensation may include:
- Uninsured or underinsured motorist coverage
- Claims against the responsible driver once identified
- Wrongful death claims under Florida law
- Insurance coverage from other vehicles involved in the crash
A wrongful death claim may help families recover damages for funeral costs, lost financial support, emotional suffering, and loss of companionship.
The Florida Highway Patrol continues to investigate the fatal hit-and-run crash that occurred on I-95 near Lake Worth.
