Woman Killed After Running Red Light and Crashing Into Miami-Dade Bus in Miami Gardens
A deadly crash in Miami Gardens, Florida was captured on surveillance video, showing the moment a vehicle collided with a public transit bus at a busy intersection, according to local authorities.
The crash resulted in the death of a young driver and injuries to at least one bus passenger.
What We Know About the Crash
According to Miami Gardens Police Department, the crash occurred on April 23, 2026, at the intersection of Northwest 199th Street and Northwest 7th Avenue.
Investigators say a 22-year-old woman driving a Hyundai was traveling eastbound on Northwest 199th Street when she ran a red light.
At the same time, a Miami-Dade Transit bus was making a left turn onto Northwest 7th Avenue.
The Hyundai struck the bus head-on during the turn.
Surveillance video from a nearby home captured the impact, showing the vehicle traveling at speed before colliding with the bus.
The driver of the Hyundai was pronounced dead at the scene.
One passenger on the bus was transported to a hospital after complaining of pain. No other serious injuries were immediately reported.
Authorities have not yet released the identity of the driver.
Ongoing Concerns About the Intersection
Residents in the area report that crashes are not uncommon at this intersection.
Neighbors say vehicles frequently lose control or collide in the area, raising concerns about:
- Traffic signal visibility
- Speeding vehicles
- Intersection design and traffic flow
Repeated incidents at a single location may indicate broader safety issues.
The Dangers of Red-Light Violations
Running a red light is one of the leading causes of serious and fatal intersection crashes.
Common risks include:
- High-speed collisions with crossing traffic
- Limited reaction time for other drivers
- Severe impact angles, especially during turning maneuvers
- Increased likelihood of fatal injuries
Crashes involving buses or larger vehicles can be particularly dangerous due to the size and weight difference.
Legal Considerations in Bus-Related Crashes
Crashes involving public transit vehicles can involve complex legal issues.
Investigators may examine:
- Traffic signal compliance
- Speed and driver behavior
- Bus operator actions
- Intersection design and safety measures
In cases involving government-operated buses, additional legal procedures and deadlines may apply.
Wrongful Death and Injury Claims
Under Florida’s Wrongful Death Act, Florida Statutes §§ 768.16–768.26, families of individuals killed in crashes may be entitled to pursue compensation.
Injury victims may also seek compensation for:
- Medical expenses
- Lost wages
- Pain and suffering
Even when one party appears at fault, a full investigation is necessary to evaluate all contributing factors.
Investigation Ongoing
The Miami Gardens Police Department continues to investigate the crash, including reviewing surveillance footage and gathering additional evidence.
