Woman Killed After Being Struck by Vehicle in Lauderhill
A tragic crash in Lauderhill claimed the life of a woman on Friday night after she was struck by a vehicle, according to local police.
The accident happened in the 2100 block of Northwest 55th Avenue, where officers responded to reports of a pedestrian being hit by a car.
When officers arrived, they found the woman suffering from severe injuries. She was transported to Broward Health Medical Center, but despite lifesaving efforts, she later succumbed to her injuries.
The woman’s identity has not been released pending notification of her family.
Police confirmed that the driver involved in the crash remained at the scene and showed no signs of impairment. No arrests were made at the time, though the investigation remains active.
Pedestrian crashes are an all-too-common tragedy in South Florida, where busy intersections, high traffic density, and limited lighting in certain areas can make walking especially dangerous at night.
According to the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles (FLHSMV), pedestrian fatalities continue to rise statewide, with driver inattention, speeding, and failure to yield as major contributing factors.
While no charges have yet been filed, the investigation will determine whether negligence played a role. Under Florida law, drivers have a duty to exercise reasonable care to avoid colliding with pedestrians, particularly in residential or mixed-use areas.
If it is found that the driver was speeding, distracted, or otherwise negligent, the victim’s family may have grounds for a wrongful death claim. This type of claim could help cover funeral expenses, medical bills, and the emotional and financial loss caused by the accident.
