A frightening early-morning crash in Orange County, Florida left a home severely damaged after a van slammed into a residential building near the University of Central Florida, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The driver fled the scene, leaving residents shaken and temporarily displaced.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the crash occurred shortly before 4:00 a.m. on May 4, 2026, on Alafaya Woods Court.
Troopers say a Sprinter van first collided with an SUV before veering off the roadway and crashing directly into a triplex, becoming lodged in the structure.
The impact caused significant structural damage to the home.
Residents Describe Terrifying Moments
One resident, who was sleeping just feet away from where the van struck, described waking up to chaos.
He reported:
- Being covered in dust and debris after the wall collapsed
- Crawling out of the home to escape
- Returning inside to rescue his cat from the rubble
The resident said he briefly encountered the driver after the crash, who appeared distressed and apologized before fleeing prior to law enforcement’s arrival.
Injuries and Displacement
While no life-threatening injuries were reported, the crash could have easily been fatal.
Residents suffered:
- Minor injuries, including head pain
- Displacement from their home due to structural damage
Authorities have deemed the impacted portion of the building unsafe.
The American Red Cross is assisting those displaced with temporary housing and support.
