UPDATE: Fatal 7-Vehicle Crash on Florida Turnpike Near Boynton Beach Leaves One Dead, Several Injured
New Details Released About Turnpike Crash
According to the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP), the crash occurred at approximately 10:09 a.m. Saturday in the northbound lanes of Florida’s Turnpike near mile marker 90, just before the Boynton Beach Boulevard exit.
Emergency responders confirmed:
- Seven vehicles and 19 occupants were involved
- A 69-year-old woman from Greenacres was pronounced dead at the scene
- Six people were transported as trauma alerts, including one by helicopter
- Multiple victims were taken to Delray Medical Center
- Northbound lanes remained closed for several hours before reopening around 4:51 p.m.
How the Chain-Reaction Crash Occurred
Investigators say the crash began when a 2023 Honda Ridgeline traveling northbound left the outside travel lane for unknown reasons and entered the shoulder.
The vehicle then collided with the right rear of a semi-truck trailer traveling in the same direction. After the initial impact:
- The Ridgeline reentered the travel lane
- Struck several additional vehicles
- Rotated and eventually collided with a concrete barrier
Five other vehicles became involved in the crash, including a Jeep Wagoneer carrying multiple occupants — including minors — as well as a Honda CR-V, Lincoln Aviator, Hyundai Tucson, and Jeep Cherokee.
Several victims suffered incapacitating injuries, while others reported minor or no injuries. The driver of the semi-truck was not hurt.
Ongoing Investigation
The Florida Highway Patrol continues to investigate what caused the initial loss of control and whether any additional factors contributed to the crash. At this time, no further details regarding potential charges or contributing causes have been released.
Understanding the Risks of Multi-Vehicle Highway Crashes
Multi-vehicle crashes on major highways like Florida’s Turnpike can be especially catastrophic due to high speeds and heavy traffic volume. When one vehicle loses control or collides with another, it can trigger a chain reaction involving multiple drivers and passengers.
These cases often require extensive investigation to determine liability and identify all responsible parties.

Families who lose a loved one in a fatal crash may have the right to pursue a wrongful death claim under Florida law. Injured victims may also be entitled to compensation for:
