The Dangers of Roadway Departure Crashes

Single-vehicle crashes involving roadway departures are often severe or fatal.

These crashes can occur when:

  • A driver loses control of the vehicle
  • The vehicle drifts off the roadway
  • There is a sudden maneuver or overcorrection

Collisions with fixed objects, such as trees, are particularly dangerous due to the force of impact.

Common Causes of Single-Vehicle Crashes

While the cause of this crash remains under investigation, factors often associated with roadway departure crashes include:

  • Driver fatigue, especially in early morning hours
  • Speeding
  • Distracted or impaired driving
  • Medical emergencies
  • Mechanical issues

Investigators will work to determine what led to the vehicle leaving the roadway.

Even in single-vehicle crashes, investigators may evaluate:

  • Roadway conditions and design
  • Vehicle maintenance or mechanical defects
  • External factors that may have contributed to the crash

If negligence played a role, surviving family members may have legal options.

Wrongful Death Claims

Families who lose loved ones in fatal crashes may be entitled to pursue compensation through a wrongful death claim.

This may include:

  • Funeral and burial expenses
  • Loss of financial support
  • Emotional pain and suffering

Investigation Ongoing

The Florida Highway Patrol continues to investigate the crash and has not yet released additional details.
