Two Teens Killed, Third Injured in Overnight Crash Near I-95 in Martin County
A tragic overnight crash in Martin County claimed the lives of two teenagers and left a third injured, according to the Martin County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies said the crash occurred at approximately 10:00 p.m. Sunday near the intersection of Bridge Road and Interstate 95, an area that has seen multiple serious crashes in recent days.
Authorities reported that three juveniles were inside the vehicle at the time of the collision:
- A 17-year-old boy, a student at Martin County High School
- A 16-year-old girl from Jupiter
- A 13-year-old passenger
The 17-year-old driver and the 16-year-old passenger were pronounced dead as a result of the crash. The 13-year-old was transported to the hospital with minor injuries, deputies said.
The identities of the victims have not been released, though law enforcement confirmed that family members have been notified.
At this time, officials have not released details regarding what caused the crash or whether another vehicle was involved. The investigation remains ongoing.
The Bridge Road and I-95 interchange has been the site of multiple serious and fatal crashes in a short period of time, raising concerns about roadway design, traffic patterns, visibility, and driver behavior in the area.
In fatal crashes involving young drivers, investigators typically examine:
- Speed and braking data
- Seatbelt usage
- Event data recorder (“black box”) information
- Roadway layout and signage
- Visibility and lighting conditions
- Whether impairment or distraction played a role
These investigations can take weeks or months to complete.
Legal Rights After a Teen Fatality Crash
When a fatal crash results in the death of a minor or young adult, surviving families may have legal rights under the Florida Wrongful Death Act, depending on the facts uncovered during the investigation.
Potential compensation may include:
- Funeral and burial expenses
- Loss of financial support and services
- Mental pain and suffering of surviving parents
- Medical expenses incurred prior to death
In some cases, liability may extend beyond a driver to include:
- Vehicle owners
- Employers, if a driver was acting within the scope of work
- Government entities, if roadway design or maintenance contributed
- Manufacturers, if a vehicle defect played a role
Because evidence can be lost quickly, early legal guidance is often critical.
