Two Okeechobee County Sheriff’s Deputies Involved in Separate Traffic Crashes

Michael T. Flanagan, Esq.

Authorities are investigating after two Okeechobee County Sheriff’s Office deputies were involved in separate traffic crashes Monday night in the city of Okeechobee, prompting road closures and traffic rerouting in the area.

The incidents occurred within a short time of each other and involved two different locations along major roadways.

According to the Okeechobee County Sheriff’s Office, the first crash involving a deputy happened at the intersection of U.S. 441 South and Charles Harvey Road.

Officials said traffic in the area was temporarily rerouted as law enforcement and emergency crews responded to the scene and began investigating the crash.

Details regarding how the crash occurred and how many vehicles were involved have not yet been released.

Second Crash Happens While Deputy Responds

While responding to the first incident, a second sheriff’s deputy was involved in a separate crash at another major intersection.

The sheriff’s office said the second crash occurred at U.S. 441 and State Road 70 at the main traffic signal in the city of Okeechobee.

Both crashes happened Monday night, and emergency personnel were dispatched to each location.

Injury Status Unknown

Officials have not yet provided information about:

  • The number of people involved
  • Whether any deputies or civilians were injured
  • The severity of any injuries sustained
  • What factors may have contributed to the crashes

Authorities confirmed that both incidents remain under active investigation.

Traffic Delays and Roadway Safety

The sheriff’s office urged drivers to use caution while traveling through the affected areas, noting that traffic delays and detours were expected as crews worked both crash scenes.

Motorists were advised to:

  • Follow directions from deputies and traffic control personnel
  • Reduce speed when approaching emergency scenes
  • Expect temporary rerouting in the area

Ongoing Investigation

Investigators are working to determine the circumstances surrounding both crashes and whether any contributing factors were involved.

No further details have been released at this time. Updates are expected as officials continue their investigation into the law enforcement-involved crashes.
