Two Killed, Two Seriously Injured in Three-Vehicle Crash Involving Semi-Truck in South Bay

Two people were killed and two others suffered serious injuries after a three-vehicle collision involving a semi-truck in South Bay on Saturday afternoon, according to the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office.

The fatal crash occurred along U.S. Highway 27 and remains under investigation.

What We Know About the Crash

According to the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded at approximately 3:24 p.m. on August 1, 2026, to a serious crash in the 7500 block of South U.S. Highway 27 in South Bay.

Preliminary investigators reported that a 2021 Cadillac XTS, driven by 37-year-old Tiffany Narcissus Laflet Silas of Deerfield Beach, was traveling southbound when the vehicle lost control.

According to investigators:

• The Cadillac began rotating clockwise and crossed the median into the northbound lanes.
• A northbound 2023 Peterbilt tractor-trailer, driven by a 48-year-old Port St. Lucie man, struck the driver’s side of the Cadillac.
• A third vehicle, driven by an Avon Park woman, sideswiped the rear of the Cadillac after the initial impact.
• The Cadillac ultimately came to rest in the median break, while the semi-truck stopped in the median.

Palm Beach County Fire Rescue pronounced Tiffany Narcissus Laflet Silas and her 14-year-old passenger, Malia Silas, dead at the scene.

Two additional passengers in the Cadillac, a 15-year-old girl from Clewiston and a 13-year-old girl from Augusta, Georgia, sustained serious injuries and were transported to St. Mary’s Medical Center for treatment.

The occupants of the third vehicle were transported to Lakeside Medical Center. Authorities have not released information regarding the extent of their injuries.

Emergency Response

Palm Beach County Fire Rescue responded alongside deputies from the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office.

Because the collision involved a tractor-trailer, the department’s Special Operations team was called to the scene to contain and clean up a fuel leak resulting from the crash.

Video from the scene showed firefighters, deputies, and emergency personnel working around the damaged tractor-trailer and multiple vehicles as the roadway remained closed during the investigation.

Investigators have not yet determined what caused the Cadillac to lose control before crossing into oncoming traffic.
