Two Killed, One Critically Injured in Multi-Vehicle Crash on Card Sound Road in Florida City
A devastating multi-vehicle crash in Florida City early Thursday morning left two men dead and another critically injured, according to authorities.
The fatal collision also forced the shutdown of Card Sound Road, a major route connecting South Florida to the Florida Keys.
According to the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office (MDSO), the crash occurred at approximately 5:15 a.m. Thursday on Card Sound Road, about eight miles south of U.S. 1.
Emergency crews from MDSO and Miami-Dade Fire Rescue responded to the scene of the three-vehicle collision, where they found multiple victims.
Officials confirmed:
- Two adult men were pronounced dead at the scene
- A third male victim was transported to a local hospital in critical condition
- The crash involved multiple vehicles, including a black sedan with severe front-end damage and a pickup truck that came to rest on the roadside
The identities of the victims have not yet been released.
Following the crash, authorities shut down Card Sound Road in both directions, impacting travel between U.S. 1 and the Monroe County line.
The closure temporarily left U.S. 1 as the only route in and out of the Florida Keys, causing significant travel disruptions.
Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office Traffic Homicide detectives have taken over the investigation and are working to determine:
- What led to the multi-vehicle collision
- Whether speed, impairment, or roadway conditions played a role
- If any criminal charges will be filed
The crash remains under active investigation.
Multi-Vehicle Crashes and Wrongful Death Liability
Fatal multi-vehicle collisions often involve complex liability issues. When more than one vehicle is involved, determining fault may require:
- Accident reconstruction
- Vehicle data analysis
- Surveillance or dash-camera footage
- Witness statements
- Toxicology testing
If negligence played a role—such as speeding, distracted driving, or impaired driving—surviving family members may be able to pursue a wrongful death claim under Florida law.
Legal Options for Families After Fatal Crashes
Families who lose a loved one in a serious crash may be entitled to pursue compensation for:
- Funeral and burial expenses
- Medical treatment prior to death
- Loss of financial support
- Loss of companionship and guidance
- Emotional pain and suffering
In cases where a surviving victim suffers catastrophic injuries, additional claims may include long-term medical care, lost wages, and rehabilitation costs.
