Two Injured in Crash on Blue Angel Parkway in Escambia County

Michael T. Flanagan, Esq.

Two people were injured Thursday evening in a crash on South Blue Angel Parkway in Escambia County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The crash occurred around 5:30 p.m. on March 12, 2026, near the intersection of South Blue Angel Parkway (State Road 173) and Sorrento Road (State Road 292) in Pensacola.

Authorities say the collision involved a Hyundai SUV and a Toyota sedan.

According to troopers, a Hyundai Santa Fe was traveling northbound on South Blue Angel Parkway when a Toyota Camry attempted to turn left from the Walmart service road and cross the median.

Investigators say that as the Camry crossed the roadway, the front of the Camry struck the left side of the Santa Fe.

The impact caused the Santa Fe to spin across the roadway before coming to rest facing south in the northbound inside lane of Blue Angel Parkway.

Two passengers in the Hyundai Santa Fe — a 40-year-old man and a 71-year-old man from Pensacola — were transported to a local hospital with minor injuries, authorities said.

The Toyota Camry was driven by a 41-year-old man from Milton. Officials have not released additional information about his condition.

Intersection Crashes Are Common

Collisions often occur at busy intersections where drivers attempt to turn across oncoming traffic.

Left-turn accidents are particularly common because drivers must accurately judge the speed and distance of approaching vehicles.

Common factors that contribute to intersection crashes include:

  • Failure to yield the right of way
  • Misjudging the speed of oncoming vehicles
  • Distracted driving
  • Limited visibility or obstructed views
  • Drivers rushing to beat traffic

Busy commercial areas, including roads near shopping centers and service entrances, can create additional risks for turning vehicles.

Potential Liability in Intersection Accidents

Determining fault in intersection crashes typically requires investigators to review the actions of all drivers involved.

Possible factors that may determine liability include:

  • Which driver had the legal right of way
  • Whether a driver failed to yield while turning
  • Speed or reckless driving
  • Traffic signal or signage compliance
  • Witness statements and surveillance footage

In many cases, drivers making left turns across traffic are responsible for ensuring the roadway is clear before proceeding.

Investigation Ongoing

The Florida Highway Patrol continues to investigate the crash on South Blue Angel Parkway near Sorrento Road in Escambia County.

Authorities have not yet released additional details about the events leading up to the collision.
