Truck Crash on Florida’s Turnpike in Miramar Traps Driver, Closes Multiple Lanes
A serious crash involving a dump truck and a sedan shut down multiple lanes on Florida’s Turnpike in Miramar Thursday morning, leaving one driver trapped and causing major traffic delays during the morning commute.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP), the crash occurred in the southbound lanes near mile marker 45, close to University Drive. Emergency responders, including Miramar Fire Rescue and FHP troopers, were quickly on the scene.
Video footage from FDOT’s live traffic cameras showed a dump truck that collided with the median, sustaining heavy front-end damage. The driver appeared trapped inside the vehicle, prompting first responders to use specialized rescue tools to gain access to the cab.
On the opposite side of the highway, a sedan was stopped amid scattered debris, suggesting a possible secondary collision or debris impact from the crash. Officials have not yet released details about the cause of the crash or the extent of the driver’s injuries.
At least three southbound lanes were closed, causing heavy congestion in the area. FHP urged drivers to avoid the stretch of the Turnpike near Miramar Parkway and use alternate routes until the scene was cleared.\
Commercial truck and dump truck crashes often result in severe injuries and significant property damage due to the sheer size and weight of the vehicles involved. Common causes of these crashes include:
- Driver fatigue or inattention
- Brake or tire failure
- Improper lane changes or overcorrections
- Unsecured or overweight loads
- Speeding or tailgating
- Roadway obstructions or poor maintenance
The investigation into this crash will likely include a mechanical inspection of the dump truck, review of driver logs, and examination of surveillance or traffic camera footage to determine liability.
Legal Rights After a Truck Accident in Florida

- Third-party contractors or vehicle maintenance providers
- Manufacturers of defective vehicle components
Under Florida law (§768.81, Florida Statutes), victims may seek compensation for:
- Medical expenses and rehabilitation
- Lost wages and loss of future earning capacity
- Pain and suffering
