Troopers Search for Driver in Arcadia Hit-and-Run That Seriously Injured Motorcyclist
Authorities in Arcadia are searching for the driver of a pickup truck involved in a hit-and-run crash that left a motorcyclist seriously injured early Wednesday morning, according to the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP).
FHP troopers say the crash occurred at approximately 5:15 a.m. at the intersection of SE Airport Road and SE Airport Estates Street.
According to investigators:
- A 36-year-old man from Arcadia was riding a motorcycle northbound on SE Airport Road
- A pickup truck traveling westbound on SE Airport Estates Street approached the intersection
- The pickup made a left turn from a stop sign directly into the path of the motorcycle
- The front left of the pickup struck the motorcycle, causing serious injuries
After the collision, the driver of the pickup fled the scene without stopping or rendering aid, troopers said.
The injured motorcyclist was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries. His current condition has not been released.
The Florida Highway Patrol is looking for a:
- Black pickup truck
- Believed to be a 2009–2014 Ford F-150
Troopers urge anyone who may have seen the crash or recognizes the vehicle to come forward.
📞 *Anyone with information is asked to call FHP or Crime Stoppers.
Hit-and-Run Crashes Are a Serious Crime in Florida
Leaving the scene of a crash involving serious bodily injury is a felony offense under Florida law. Drivers involved in crashes are legally required to:
- Stop immediately
- Provide aid to injured persons
- Exchange information
- Notify law enforcement
Fleeing the scene not only worsens injuries by delaying medical care but also exposes the at-fault driver to severe criminal and civil penalties.
Legal Rights of Hit-and-Run Motorcycle Crash Victims
Motorcyclists are especially vulnerable in collisions, and hit-and-run crashes often result in devastating injuries. Victims may have several legal avenues available, even when the at-fault driver has not yet been identified.
Potential options may include:
- Uninsured/underinsured motorist (UM/UIM) claims
- Claims against other responsible parties if roadway design or visibility played a role
- Crime victim compensation benefits
- Civil claims once the driver is identified
Compensation may cover:
- Medical expenses and future treatment
- Lost income and reduced earning capacity
- Pain and suffering
- Permanent disability or disfigurement
Early legal intervention is critical to preserve evidence, locate witnesses, and protect insurance rights.
