Tragic Marion Oaks Crash Claims Life of Oldest Brother, Injures Two Siblings
A devastating three-vehicle collision in Marion Oaks, Florida, has claimed the life of 28-year-old Alexy Quedevo-Perez, the eldest of three tightly bonded brothers, and left his two younger siblings hospitalized. The fatal crash occurred around 6:15 a.m. on July 15 at the intersection of Marion Oaks Boulevard and Marion Oaks Manor, casting a dark shadow over a close-knit Venezuelan family still reeling from the loss of their mother two decades ago.
Alexy was traveling with his brothers, Alexander and Alejandro Quedevo-Perez, in a Honda minivan, heading south on Marion Oaks Boulevard. The Florida Highway Patrol reported that they had the right-of-way when a white catering van, driven by a 40-year-old Reddick man, ran a stop sign on Marion Oaks Manor and struck the left side of their vehicle.
The impact sent both vehicles spinning, and the minivan subsequently collided with a Hyundai sedan, driven by a 41-year-old woman, who sustained minor injuries.
Marion County Fire Rescue crews arrived at the scene within five minutes of receiving the call. Sadly, Alexy was pronounced dead on-site. His brothers were transported to a local hospital — Alexander with a hip injury, and Alejandro with minor wounds. Their conditions have since stabilized, but the emotional toll is immeasurable.
Alexy leaves behind a wife and two children, a son and a daughter.
The driver of the catering van claimed to have stopped at the intersection but believed the minivan was traveling in the wrong direction. Troopers have not confirmed that detail, and a blood test was taken as part of standard protocol to assess for possible impairment.
The Florida Highway Patrol’s investigation is ongoing, and no charges have been filed at this time.
