Three Men Hospitalized After SUV Crash on I-95 in Nassau County, FHP Says
A serious crash on Interstate 95 in Nassau County, Florida left three men hospitalized after an SUV veered off the roadway and overturned on a guardrail, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The crash occurred Sunday morning and resulted in both serious and critical injuries.
What We Know About the Crash
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the crash happened on April 12, 2026, in the northbound lanes of I-95. Investigators say a 24-year-old man from Yulee was driving an SUV when the vehicle drifted from the right lane onto the shoulder. The SUV continued along the shoulder, traveled up an embankment, and struck the concrete guardrail of an overpass at County Road 108.
Following the impact, the vehicle overturned and came to rest upside down on top of the guardrail. The driver and one passenger suffered serious injuries, while a second passenger sustained critical injuries. All three men were transported to the hospital for treatment. Their identities have not been released.
Risks of Lane Departure and Rollover Crashes
Crashes involving vehicles drifting out of their lane can quickly escalate into severe or catastrophic incidents, especially on high-speed roadways like I-95.
Common contributing factors in these types of crashes include:
- Driver fatigue or falling asleep at the wheel
- Distraction, including phone use
- Impairment due to alcohol or drugs
- Medical emergencies
- Loss of vehicle control
When a vehicle leaves the roadway and strikes a fixed object, such as a guardrail or embankment, the force of impact can lead to rollovers, which significantly increase the risk of serious injury.
Legal Considerations in Serious Injury Crashes
Even when a crash involves a single vehicle, a full investigation may reveal contributing factors that could impact liability.
Potential liable parties may include:
- Vehicle manufacturer, if a defect contributed to the crash or rollover
- Maintenance providers, if mechanical issues played a role
- Government entities, if roadway design, guardrails, or signage were inadequate
- Third parties, if another driver’s actions contributed to the vehicle leaving the lane
In cases involving passengers, injured individuals may have claims depending on the circumstances surrounding the crash.
Compensation for Injured Victims
Victims injured in serious crashes may be entitled to compensation for:
- Emergency medical care and hospitalization
- Ongoing treatment and rehabilitation
- Lost wages and reduced earning capacity
- Pain and suffering
- Long-term or permanent injuries
Cases involving critical injuries often require extensive medical care and long-term recovery.
The Florida Highway Patrol continues to investigate the cause of the crash, including why the vehicle drifted out of its lane and whether any external factors contributed.
