Bus Stop and Pedestrian Crashes
Pedestrians waiting at bus stops are especially vulnerable because they are often standing close to busy roadways with little protection from traffic.
Crashes involving bus stops can occur for a variety of reasons, including:
- Distracted driving
- Speeding
- Impaired driving
- Driver fatigue
- Mechanical failure
- Drivers losing control of their vehicles
In busy tourist areas like Miami Beach, heavy traffic and pedestrian activity can increase the risk of these types of incidents.
Potential Liability After Bus Stop Accidents
When a vehicle crashes into a bus stop or strikes pedestrians, multiple parties may potentially be liable depending on the circumstances of the crash.
Possible responsible parties may include:
- The driver of the vehicle if negligence or reckless driving caused the crash
- Vehicle owners or employers if the driver was operating a company vehicle
- Government entities responsible for roadway design or safety barriers
- Manufacturers if a mechanical defect contributed to the crash
Victims injured in pedestrian crashes may be entitled to compensation for:
- Medical expenses
- Lost wages
- Pain and suffering
- Long-term disability or rehabilitation costs
