Three Critically Injured, Including 13-Year-Old, in Wrong-Way I-10 Crash in Madison County

Three people, including a 13-year-old child, were critically injured Wednesday evening after a wrong-way driver collided head-on with another vehicle on Interstate 10 in Madison County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The August 19, 2026 crash occurred during heavy rainfall, and FHP said charges are pending.

What Happened in the Madison County Wrong-Way Crash?

According to FHP, the collision occurred at approximately 7:10 p.m. on eastbound I-10 near mile marker 259.

Before the crash, troopers received an alert about a vehicle traveling the wrong way on the interstate. Authorities said the vehicle was heading west in the eastbound lanes between mile markers 260 and 259.

Shortly afterward, witnesses reported that a head-on collision had occurred.

FHP’s preliminary investigation indicates the wrong-way vehicle was traveling west in the inside eastbound lane while a second vehicle was traveling east in that same lane.

The two vehicles collided head-on and ultimately came to rest on opposite shoulders of the interstate.

Three People Taken to Hospital as Trauma Alerts

Three people were inside the two vehicles, including a 13-year-old passenger in the vehicle traveling in the correct direction.

Emergency personnel had to extricate all three occupants from the wreckage.

According to FHP, all three suffered critical injuries and were transported to Tallahassee Memorial Hospital as trauma alerts.

Authorities did not provide additional information about their conditions.

Heavy Rain Reported at Time of Collision

Witnesses told investigators that heavy rain was falling when the crash occurred.

According to troopers, a vehicle traveling west in the eastbound lanes collided head-on with an eastbound vehicle carrying a 13-year-old passenger. All three occupants of the two vehicles were critically injured and transported to Tallahassee Memorial Hospital as trauma alerts.
