Tampa Woman Arrested for DUI After Rollover Crash on I-275, According to FHP
A late-night crash on Interstate 275 in Tampa has led to a DUI arrest, according to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP). The incident occurred Thursday night and involved a rollover collision that temporarily disrupted traffic near the junction with Interstate 4.
According to FHP, 29-year-old Emily Frances Diaz was driving a Honda CRV southbound in the inside lane of I-275 shortly after 10 p.m. Troopers say Diaz attempted to change lanes when she struck the front end of a Subaru Outback operated by a 25-year-old Tampa woman.
The impact caused Diaz’s vehicle to flip, while the Subaru veered off the roadway and collided with a concrete barrier wall. Emergency responders arrived at the scene shortly after the crash.
Officials report that Diaz sustained minor injuries but was determined to be impaired. After providing a breath sample of 0.205—more than twice the legal limit in Florida—she was arrested on charges of driving under the influence.
The driver of the Subaru was not injured in the crash.
DUI accidents remain a major safety concern across the state. Impaired driving increases the risk of high-impact collisions, rollovers, and catastrophic injuries. Even when victims are fortunate enough to walk away without harm, the emotional and financial impact can still be significant.
Under Florida law, drunk drivers can be held civilly and criminally liable for the damage they cause. Victims may be entitled to compensation for medical bills, lost wages, pain and suffering, and property damage.
