Second Teen Dies After Fiery Multi-Car Crash in Pompano Beach

A devastating crash in Pompano Beach has now claimed the lives of two teenagers, both students in the Broward County school system, and left four others injured. The tragedy unfolded around 7:50 p.m. on Friday, June 14, 2025, on West Copans Road near Leisure Boulevard. The heartbreaking aftermath has shaken families, schools, and the wider South Florida community, prompting serious questions about how the accident happened and whether it could have been prevented.
According to the Broward Sheriff’s Office, a 2019 Mercedes-Benz CLA 250 carrying five teens was traveling westbound on West Copans Road. At the same time, an 82-year-old man driving a 2021 Toyota Sienna attempted a left-hand turn from Leisure Boulevard across oncoming traffic. That’s when the Mercedes collided with the Toyota, flipped onto its roof, and slid across the roadway.
The overturned vehicle then struck a 2015 Lexus RX 350 traveling eastbound. A fourth vehicle—a 2021 Toyota RAV4—was also impacted by flying debris.
Authorities confirmed that the 16-year-old driver of the Mercedes died at the hospital shortly after the crash. On Sunday, 17-year-old Richard Grable III, one of the passengers in the Mercedes, was pronounced dead due to severe brain injuries, according to his father. Grable was a student at Fort Lauderdale High School and is remembered as a football fan who loved video games and surfing.
Three other teens in the Mercedes—a 17-year-old girl and two 17-year-old boys—remain hospitalized. One of the injured was reportedly a student at St. Thomas Aquinas High School, which held a prayer service to honor the students.
The drivers of the Lexus, Toyota Sienna, and Toyota RAV4 were not injured and remained at the scene.
Investigators have stated that excessive speed may have been a contributing factor in the accident. However, it remains unclear whether the teen driver of the Mercedes or the 82-year-old driver of the Toyota Sienna was speeding or failed to yield.
Multi-vehicle accidents like this one are highly complex. When multiple cars, teen drivers, and potentially elderly drivers are involved, determining fault requires:
- Reviewing surveillance footage
- Eyewitness testimony
- Reconstructing the crash using forensic experts
- Accessing vehicle data and speed logs
