The Dangers of Wrong-Way Crashes
Wrong-way collisions are among the most dangerous types of motor vehicle accidents, often resulting in catastrophic injuries or fatalities due to the high speeds and head-on impact involved.
Some of the most common causes of wrong-way crashes include:
- Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs
- Driver confusion or disorientation
- Poor roadway lighting or signage
- Fatigue or distracted driving
- Drivers entering highways or roads from the wrong direction
Because these crashes frequently occur late at night or early in the morning, impaired or fatigued driving is often a contributing factor.
Legal Liability in Wrong-Way Collisions
Wrong-way crashes can lead to serious legal consequences when a driver’s negligence causes injuries or death.
Depending on the circumstances, liability may involve:
- Drivers operating under the influence of alcohol or drugs
- Reckless or negligent driving behavior
- Roadway design issues or inadequate signage
- Mechanical failures in certain cases
Families who lose loved ones in fatal crashes may be able to pursue a wrongful death claim against the responsible party.
Compensation in these cases may help cover damages such as:
- Funeral and burial expenses
- Medical costs related to the crash
- Loss of financial support
- Emotional pain and suffering
A thorough investigation is often necessary to determine the full circumstances of a fatal collision.
The Florida Highway Patrol continues to investigate the deadly wrong-way crash on Kepler Road near Mimosa Lane.
