Police Identify 19-Year-Old Killed in Triple Shooting at Miramar Gas Station
Miramar police have identified the victim killed in a triple shooting at a gas station Tuesday night as 19-year-old Christian Corea, following a violent altercation that left two additional people injured, including an innocent bystander.
The shooting occurred around 8:30 p.m. at a Sunoco gas station near Pembroke Road and DeSoto Boulevard, according to officials with the City of Miramar.
Investigators say the incident began when an individual approached a vehicle at the gas station, leading to an altercation that escalated into an exchange of gunfire. Surveillance video from the scene captured the moment shots were fired, underscoring how quickly routine public settings can become scenes of deadly violence.
Police confirmed that:
- Christian Corea, 19, was killed at the scene
- A second individual who was shot fled the area and was later taken to the hospital
- An innocent bystander was also struck by gunfire and hospitalized, but is expected to survive
Pembroke Pines Police assisted with the initial response, and both injured victims were transported to Memorial Regional Hospital. Authorities reported that one victim sustained gunshot wounds to the chest, while the bystander was shot in the thigh.
Miramar Police believe another individual may have fled the scene and could have information critical to the investigation. Detectives continue to review evidence, including surveillance footage and witness statements. Officials stated there is no known ongoing threat to the public.
Gas stations are high-traffic locations that frequently operate late into the night, making them common sites for violent crime. In many cases, shootings at convenience stores and gas stations raise serious questions about security measures, including:
- Whether the property had adequate lighting
- Whether security cameras were functioning and monitored
- Whether prior criminal activity occurred at the location
- Whether additional security personnel should have been present
When violent crime occurs on commercial property, responsibility may extend beyond the shooter.
Legal Options for Victims and Families
While criminal charges focus on punishment, civil law focuses on accountability and financial recovery for victims and their families.
Wrongful Death Claims
The family of a victim killed by gun violence may pursue a wrongful death claim under Florida law for:
- Funeral and burial expenses
- Loss of financial support
- Loss of companionship, guidance, and protection
- Mental pain and suffering
Negligent Security Claims
If a gas station or property owner failed to provide reasonable security despite foreseeable risks, they may be held liable under Florida negligent security laws. These cases often involve:
- Failure to address known criminal activity
- Inadequate lighting or surveillance
- Lack of security personnel
- Poor property layout or visibility
Injury Claims for Survivors and Bystanders
Injured victims and innocent bystanders may pursue compensation for:
- Medical expenses and future treatment
- Pain and suffering
- Emotional trauma
- Lost income
- Long-term physical or psychological effects
These cases are complex and time-sensitive, particularly when video footage, witness statements, and security records must be preserved.
