Overturned Semi-Truck Crash Blocks U.S. 41 in Collier County, Three Injured

Michael T. Flanagan, Esq.

A crash involving an overturned semi-truck caused major traffic disruptions and left three people injured Thursday evening in Collier County, according to the Collier County Sheriff’s Office.

The crash occurred around 5:35 p.m. on March 12, 2026, at the intersection of U.S. Highway 41 and Turner River Road, authorities said.

Emergency responders from the sheriff’s office and the Florida Highway Patrol were dispatched to the scene.

According to investigators, the crash involved a semi-truck carrying lumber that overturned during the collision.

The impact caused the truck to spill or shift its load, creating a dangerous situation on the roadway.

Authorities confirmed that three people were injured in the crash, though the severity of their injuries has not yet been publicly disclosed.

Emergency crews responded quickly to assist the injured and secure the scene.

Because the semi-truck overturned and blocked the roadway, U.S. Highway 41 was shut down in the area while crews worked to manage the scene.

Deputies reported that they were turning motorists around to prevent vehicles from approaching the crash site.

Large commercial vehicle crashes often require extensive cleanup due to:

  • Spilled cargo
  • Fuel leaks or hazardous materials
  • Damaged vehicles blocking multiple lanes
  • Debris scattered across the roadway

Authorities have not yet indicated when traffic will fully return to normal.

Dangers of Semi-Truck Accidents

Crashes involving tractor-trailers and commercial trucks can be particularly dangerous due to the size and weight of these vehicles.

When a semi-truck overturns, it can create serious hazards for nearby drivers.

Common causes of semi-truck crashes include:

  • Excessive speed or unsafe turns
  • Driver fatigue or distraction
  • Improperly secured cargo
  • Mechanical failures
  • Poor road or weather conditions

Cargo loads such as lumber can also shift during travel, increasing the risk of rollover accidents.

Commercial truck accidents often involve complex investigations because multiple parties may be responsible.

Potential liability may include:

  • The truck driver
  • The trucking company or employer
  • Cargo loading companies
  • Vehicle maintenance providers
  • Manufacturers of defective truck components

Federal and state regulations govern commercial trucking operations, including hours-of-service rules, cargo safety requirements, and maintenance standards.

When these regulations are violated, it can significantly increase the risk of serious crashes.

Investigation Ongoing

Authorities continue to investigate the semi-truck crash that overturned on U.S. Highway 41 near Turner River Road in Collier County.

Officials have not yet released additional details about what caused the crash or the extent of the injuries suffered.

If you or a loved one has been injured in a truck accident, speaking with an experienced attorney can help you understand your legal rights and options.
