Investigation Turned Over to Florida Highway Patrol

The investigation into the crash has been transferred to the Florida Highway Patrol, which is responsible for investigating traffic fatalities on state highways and interstates.

  • If speeding, distraction, or impairment were factors
  • Whether any traffic violations contributed to the collision

Officials have not yet announced whether additional drivers were involved.

Common Causes of Fatal Interstate Crashes

High-speed interstate highways such as I-75 can increase the severity of crashes due to the speed and volume of traffic.

Fatal highway crashes often occur because of:

  • Speeding
  • Distracted driving
  • Driver fatigue
  • Unsafe lane changes
  • Following too closely
  • Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs

Even a momentary lapse in attention at highway speeds can result in catastrophic collisions.

When a fatal crash occurs due to another driver’s negligence, surviving family members may have the right to pursue a wrongful death claim under Florida law.

A civil claim may help families recover compensation for:

  • Funeral and burial expenses
  • Medical bills related to the accident
  • Loss of financial support
  • Loss of companionship and emotional suffering

Investigations by law enforcement and crash reconstruction experts often play a key role in determining liability in these cases.

Authorities continue to investigate the fatal crash on Interstate 75 near the Newberry Road exit in Gainesville.

Anyone who witnessed the crash or has additional information is encouraged to contact law enforcement.
