One Killed, Seven Injured in Overnight Rollover Crash on I-4 in Orange County
A devastating early morning crash on Interstate 4 near Walt Disney World in Orange County, Florida left one person dead and seven others injured after a vehicle overturned and a passenger was ejected into oncoming traffic, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The incident highlights the severe dangers associated with tire blowouts and rollover crashes on high-speed highways.
What We Know About the Crash
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the crash occurred around 3:30 a.m. on April 19, 2026.
Investigators say a 2004 Chevrolet Trailblazer was traveling westbound on I-4 when its right rear tire suddenly blew out. The blowout caused the driver to lose control, and the vehicle overturned multiple times.
During the rollover, a 17-year-old passenger was ejected from the SUV and landed in the eastbound lanes of I-4.
Troopers report that a 2017 Lexus CT traveling eastbound then struck the ejected passenger. The teen was transported to Osceola Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
The driver of the Trailblazer and six other passengers sustained serious injuries and were transported to Orlando Regional Medical Center for treatment.
The driver and passenger of the Lexus remained at the scene and were not injured.
Authorities have not confirmed whether the occupants of the Trailblazer were wearing seat belts.
The crash remains under investigation.
The Dangers of Tire Blowouts and Rollover Crashes
Tire blowouts at highway speeds can lead to catastrophic loss of control, especially in larger vehicles like SUVs.
Key risks include:
- Sudden vehicle instability
- Multiple rollovers
- Ejection of occupants
- Secondary collisions with other vehicles
Ejections are one of the leading causes of fatal injuries in rollover crashes and are often linked to lack of seat belt use.
Legal Considerations in Multi-Vehicle Crash Scenarios
Complex crashes involving multiple vehicles and events often require detailed investigation to determine liability.
Potential factors that may be examined include:
- Tire condition and possible defects
- Vehicle maintenance history
- Seat belt usage
- Actions of other drivers involved after the initial crash
In some cases, liability may extend beyond the driver to manufacturers or maintenance providers if a defect contributed to the blowout.
Wrongful Death Claims Under Florida Law
Under Florida’s Wrongful Death Act, Florida Statutes §§ 768.16–768.26, surviving family members of the deceased may be entitled to pursue compensation if negligence contributed to the fatal incident.
Damages may include:
- Funeral and burial expenses
- Loss of financial support and future earnings
- Loss of companionship and protection
- Mental pain and suffering
These cases often involve complex accident reconstruction and expert analysis.
Investigation Ongoing
The Florida Highway Patrol continues to investigate the crash, including whether seat belt use or mechanical issues played a role.
