One Injured After Fiery Crash Involving FHP Cruiser in Northeast Tallahassee

Michael T. Flanagan, Esq.

One person was injured Tuesday afternoon following a three-vehicle crash involving a Florida Highway Patrol cruiser in Tallahassee, authorities said.

The crash occurred around 1:00 p.m. on March 10 at the intersection of North Blair Stone Road and Miccosukee Road, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Emergency crews temporarily shut down the intersection in all four directions while responding to the scene.

According to troopers, the crash involved three vehicles, including:

  • A pickup truck
  • A sedan
  • A Florida Highway Patrol patrol vehicle

Authorities say that during the collision one of the vehicles caught fire, prompting a response from firefighters who quickly extinguished the blaze.

Officials have not yet confirmed which vehicle caught fire or what caused the crash.

Emergency medical services responded to the crash and transported one injured person to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Authorities have not released the identity of the injured individual or details about the severity of the injuries.

Due to the severity of the crash and the fire response, the intersection of North Blair Stone Road and Miccosukee Road was closed in all four directions as emergency crews worked to secure the area and clear the wreckage.

The closure caused significant traffic delays throughout the surrounding area before lanes were eventually reopened.

Crashes Involving Emergency Vehicles

Accidents involving emergency vehicles can be particularly complex because investigators must determine whether the responding officer was engaged in official duties and whether emergency lights or sirens were activated at the time of the collision.

In these cases, investigators often examine:

  • Vehicle speeds and travel paths
  • Traffic signal timing
  • Dash camera or body camera footage
  • Witness statements
  • Crash reconstruction evidence

Even when law enforcement vehicles are involved, other drivers still have a responsibility to exercise caution and yield appropriately when emergency vehicles are present.

Three-vehicle crashes often require detailed investigation to determine liability, particularly when government vehicles are involved.

Factors investigators may review include:

  • Driver negligence or distraction
  • Failure to yield or obey traffic signals
  • Speeding or reckless driving
  • Roadway design or visibility issues
  • Emergency response protocols

In crashes involving government vehicles, potential claims may involve government liability laws and special legal procedures under Florida law.

The Florida Highway Patrol continues to investigate the fiery crash at North Blair Stone Road and Miccosukee Road in Tallahassee.

Authorities say additional details will be released as the investigation progresses.
