Single-vehicle crashes, such as collisions with trees or fixed objects, often result in serious injuries or fatalities due to the sudden force of impact.
These crashes frequently occur when drivers lose control of their vehicles.
Common factors that can contribute to single-vehicle crashes include:
- Speeding
- Impaired driving
- Distracted driving
- Fatigue or falling asleep at the wheel
- Poor road conditions
- Mechanical failures
- Sudden medical emergencies
When a vehicle strikes a stationary object like a tree, the impact can be severe because the object does not move or absorb the force of the collision.
Potential Legal Liability in Serious Vehicle Crashes
Even when a crash appears to involve only one vehicle, investigators often examine whether other factors may have contributed to the incident.
Potential contributing issues may include:
- Dangerous roadway design or inadequate lighting
- Missing guardrails or safety barriers
- Vehicle defects or mechanical failures
- Poorly maintained roads or hazards in the roadway
If negligence by another party contributed to the crash, injured victims or their families may have legal options to pursue compensation.
In cases involving fatal crashes, surviving family members may be able to file a wrongful death claim under Florida law.
Such claims may seek compensation for damages including:
- Funeral and burial expenses
- Medical bills incurred before death
- Loss of financial support
- Emotional suffering and loss of companionship
