Deputy Dies at the Scene

Authorities have not indicated that impairment played a role in the crash.
A Life Dedicated to Public Service

Last-Minute Lane Changes Can Be Extremely Dangerous
Traffic safety experts consistently warn against sudden lane changes near exits.
These maneuvers can create dangerous situations because:
- Vehicles in adjacent lanes may have little time to react.
- Traffic speeds are often significantly different.
- Drivers may cross multiple lanes at once.
- Visibility can be limited at night.
High-speed interstate crashes often result in severe injuries because of the tremendous forces involved.
Investigation Continues
The Polk County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Homicide Investigations Unit continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.
Investigators are reviewing evidence, vehicle damage, and roadway conditions to determine the complete sequence of events.
Additional information may be released as the investigation progresses.
