Michael T. Flanagan, Esq.

A deadly crash on U.S. 41 (Tamiami Trail) in Collier County, Florida has led to the arrest of a Naples man on DUI manslaughter charges, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The crash involved multiple vehicles, including several motorcycles, and resulted in one fatality.

What We Know About the Crash

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the crash occurred around noon on April 25, 2026, along U.S. 41 west of Cays Drive in Collier County.

Authorities say the crash involved multiple vehicles and several motorcycles. One person was killed as a result of the collision.

Following an investigation, troopers arrested a Naples man in connection with the crash. He is now facing DUI manslaughter charges, indicating that law enforcement believes impairment played a role in the fatal incident.

The roadway was shut down for several hours as emergency crews responded and investigators processed the scene. It was later reopened that evening.

Driving under the influence remains one of the leading causes of fatal crashes across Florida.

Impaired driving can result in:

  • Slower reaction times
  • Poor judgment and decision-making
  • Difficulty maintaining lanes or controlling speed
  • Increased likelihood of multi-vehicle collisions

When motorcycles are involved, the risk of fatal injury is significantly higher due to the lack of protection for riders.

Understanding DUI Manslaughter in Florida

Under Florida law, DUI manslaughter is a serious felony offense that occurs when a person causes the death of another while operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

Penalties may include:

  • Significant prison time
  • Substantial fines
  • Permanent criminal record
  • Driver’s license revocation

These charges reflect the severity of taking a life due to impaired driving.

Families who lose a loved one in a DUI-related crash may have the right to pursue a wrongful death claim under Florida Statutes §§ 768.16–768.26.

Compensation may include:

  • Funeral and burial expenses
  • Loss of income and financial support
  • Loss of companionship
  • Emotional pain and suffering

Civil claims are separate from criminal proceedings and focus on financial recovery and accountability.

Investigation Ongoing

The Florida Highway Patrol continues to investigate the crash and may release additional details as the case develops.
