Multi-Vehicle Crash Involving Semi-Truck Blocks Lanes on I-95 Near Fort Pierce

Michael T. Flanagan, Esq.

A multi-vehicle crash involving a semi-truck caused significant traffic disruptions Tuesday morning on Interstate 95 near Fort Pierce, according to Florida 511.

Emergency crews responded to the crash, which blocked multiple southbound lanes while first responders assisted those involved and cleared the scene. The cause of the collision remains under investigation.

What We Know About the Crash

According to Florida 511, the crash occurred at approximately 11:36 a.m. on July 14, 2026, on southbound Interstate 95 near Mile Marker 135 in St. Lucie County.

Authorities reported that:

  • The crash involved multiple vehicles, including a semi-truck.
  • Three southbound lanes were blocked following the collision.
  • Traffic was reduced to a single open lane while emergency crews worked at the scene.
  • Florida Highway Patrol troopers and local firefighters responded to investigate and clear the crash.

Traffic camera images showed the semi-truck with significant front-end damage after coming to rest on the grassy shoulder alongside the interstate.

Officials have not released the number of vehicles involved beyond the semi-truck, nor have they provided information about injuries.

Investigation Underway

The Florida Highway Patrol is expected to investigate the circumstances surrounding the collision.

As part of the investigation, troopers may examine:

  • The sequence of impacts between the vehicles.
  • Driver distraction.
  • Vehicle speed.
  • Following distance.
  • Mechanical issues.
  • Roadway and weather conditions.
  • Commercial vehicle records, if applicable.
  • Physical evidence and electronic data from the vehicles.

Authorities have not announced whether any citations or charges are expected.

Semi-Truck Crashes Can Cause Severe Damage

Crashes involving commercial trucks often result in extensive vehicle damage because of the significant difference in size and weight between tractor-trailers and passenger vehicles.

Determining how these collisions occur frequently requires a detailed investigation that includes reviewing driver logs, maintenance records, electronic control module data, and compliance with federal trucking regulations.

Individuals injured in collisions involving commercial trucks may have legal options if another party’s negligence contributed to the crash.

Depending on the facts established during the investigation, potentially responsible parties may include:

  • The semi-truck driver.
  • The trucking company.
  • A vehicle maintenance contractor.
  • A cargo loading company.
  • Another negligent motorist involved in the collision.
  • A manufacturer of defective vehicle components.

Victims injured in commercial truck crashes may be entitled to seek compensation for:

  • Emergency medical expenses.
  • Future medical care and rehabilitation.
  • Lost wages and diminished earning capacity.
  • Pain and suffering.
  • Permanent disability or impairment.
  • Property damage.

If the collision ultimately results in a fatality, surviving family members may also have the right to pursue a wrongful death claim under Florida’s Wrongful Death Act (Florida Statutes §§768.16–768.26).

Preserving Evidence Is Critical in Commercial Truck Cases

Evidence in trucking cases can disappear quickly if it is not preserved.

Important evidence may include:

  • Electronic logging device (ELD) data.
  • Event data recorder (“black box”) information.
  • Driver qualification and training records.
  • Hours-of-service logs.
  • Maintenance and inspection records.
  • Dash camera footage.
  • Surveillance video.
  • Crash scene photographs.
  • Witness statements.

Prompt preservation of this evidence can play an important role in determining liability.

Investigation Continues

The Florida Highway Patrol continues to investigate the multi-vehicle crash on Interstate 95 near Fort Pierce.

Additional information regarding injuries, the number of vehicles involved, and the cause of the collision is expected to be released as the investigation progresses.

Multi-vehicle crashes involving commercial trucks can have life-changing consequences for everyone involved. We hope anyone injured in this collision makes a full recovery, and we will continue to monitor the investigation as more information becomes available.
