Motorcyclist Killed, Three Injured in DUI Crash in Zephyrhills
A motorcyclist from Zephyrhills died and three other people were injured following a multi-vehicle crash Saturday evening in Pasco County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The crash occurred shortly before 7:30 p.m. on March 8 along Chancey Road east of Yonkers Boulevard.
Authorities say the crash involved five vehicles, including two motorcycles.
According to investigators, 29-year-old Mynor Milian-Morales was driving a Toyota pickup truck westbound on Chancey Road when he attempted to pass another vehicle in a no-passing zone.
Troopers say Milian-Morales entered the eastbound lane of traffic while trying to pass a Chevrolet truck.
While in the opposing lane, his vehicle collided with an oncoming Subaru SUV, triggering a chain-reaction crash involving multiple vehicles.
Authorities say the sequence of events unfolded as follows:
- The Toyota pickup struck the Subaru SUV head-on.
- After the initial crash, the SUV spun into the westbound lane.
- The spinning SUV collided with the Chevrolet truck.
- The SUV then struck a Harley-Davidson motorcycle traveling behind the truck.
- A second motorcycle, a Honda, attempted to avoid the crash but lost control and overturned.
The crash ultimately involved two trucks, an SUV, and two motorcycles.
The rider of the Harley-Davidson motorcycle, a 51-year-old man from Zephyrhills, suffered severe injuries in the crash.
He was transported to a nearby hospital but later died from his injuries, according to troopers.
Several others involved in the crash were also injured:
- The driver of the Subaru SUV, a 62-year-old man from Bell, Florida, suffered serious injuries
- The driver of the Chevrolet truck, a 55-year-old woman from Zephyrhills, sustained minor injuries
- A 27-year-old Zephyrhills man riding the Honda motorcycle also suffered minor injuries
The passenger in the Subaru SUV was not injured.
Authorities say Milian-Morales suffered minor injuries.
Driver Arrested on DUI Manslaughter Charges
According to investigators, Milian-Morales was arrested following the crash.
Troopers report that he had a blood alcohol concentration of 0.106, which exceeds Florida’s legal limit of 0.08.
Authorities also stated that he did not have a valid driver’s license.
Milian-Morales now faces multiple charges, including:
- DUI manslaughter
- Driving without a valid license resulting in death
- Additional DUI-related charges involving injury and property damage
He was booked into the Pasco County Jail.
DUI Crashes Remain a Serious Problem
Driving under the influence continues to be one of the leading causes of fatal crashes in Florida.
Alcohol impairment can significantly affect a driver’s:
- Reaction time
- Judgment and decision-making
- Ability to maintain proper lane control
- Awareness of surrounding traffic
When impaired drivers attempt dangerous maneuvers—such as passing in a no-passing zone—the risk of catastrophic collisions increases dramatically.
Motorcyclists are particularly vulnerable in these situations because they lack the protection provided by passenger vehicles.
Legal Rights After a Fatal DUI Crash
Crashes involving impaired drivers often lead to both criminal charges and civil liability.
When a driver’s negligence—such as driving under the influence—results in death or serious injury, victims and their families may have the right to pursue compensation through civil claims.
Potential damages may include:
- Medical expenses
- Funeral and burial costs
- Loss of financial support
- Pain and suffering
- Loss of companionship and emotional support
Wrongful death claims can help families seek accountability and financial recovery after a tragic crash.
