Motorcyclist Killed in Jacksonville Crash on Town Center Parkway
Tragedy struck late Wednesday night in Jacksonville when a young motorcyclist was killed after colliding with a vehicle on Town Center Parkway, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office (JSO). The incident marks the 35th motorcycle-related fatality in Duval County in 2025, underscoring the ongoing dangers faced by motorcyclists on Florida’s busy roads.
The crash occurred around 10:20 p.m., when officers were called to the intersection of Town Center Parkway and Tropia Way, near the bustling St. Johns Town Center area.
According to investigators, the motorcycle was traveling westbound on Town Center Parkway when an Audi traveling eastbound attempted to make a left turn onto Tropia Way. The motorcyclist collided with the passenger side of the Audi, forcefully ejecting him from the bike.
Emergency responders from the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department rushed the rider — identified as a man in his early 20s — to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
The driver of the Audi reportedly remained at the scene and cooperated with authorities. The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office’s Traffic Homicide Unit is investigating to determine whether speed, visibility, or other factors contributed to the crash.
Florida consistently ranks among the top states for motorcycle fatalities. According to the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles (FLHSMV), motorcyclists represent nearly 20% of all traffic deaths in the state, even though motorcycles make up only about 3% of registered vehicles.
Duval County has seen a troubling spike in these numbers — 35 motorcycle deaths in 2025 alone, out of 133 total traffic fatalities. Many of these crashes occur when other drivers fail to yield the right-of-way during turns or lane changes, often citing that they “didn’t see” the motorcyclist.
Left-turn collisions, like the one on Town Center Parkway, are among the most common causes of motorcycle deaths. These crashes often result in catastrophic or fatal injuries due to the lack of physical protection motorcyclists have compared to car occupants.
Legal Options for the Family of the Victim
When a fatal motorcycle accident occurs, surviving family members may be eligible to file a wrongful death claim under the Florida Wrongful Death Act (§768.16–§768.26). This type of claim allows the victim’s loved ones to pursue justice and financial compensation for their loss.
A wrongful death lawsuit can seek compensation for:
- Funeral and burial expenses
- Medical bills incurred before the victim’s passing
- Loss of income and future financial support
- Emotional pain and suffering of surviving family members
- Loss of companionship, protection, and guidance
Even if the motorcyclist was found partially at fault — for instance, if investigators cite speeding or lane positioning — Florida’s modified comparative negligence law (§768.81) still allows recovery as long as the victim is not found more than 50% at fault.
What Families Should Do After a Fatal Motorcycle Crash
If your loved one has been killed in a motorcycle accident in Jacksonville or elsewhere in Florida, it’s critical to act quickly to preserve evidence and protect your rights:
- Request the police crash report and any available witness statements.
- Document the scene if possible — including vehicle damage, skid marks, and debris.
- Do not communicate with insurance adjusters before consulting an attorney.
- Contact a wrongful death attorney experienced in motorcycle accidents for a free evaluation.
An attorney can help determine liability, handle all communication with insurers, and fight for maximum compensation while the family focuses on grieving and healing.
