Motorcycle Crash Near Nease High School Leaves Rider Seriously Injured, Lane Closed on U.S.-1

Michael T. Flanagan, Esq.

A serious motorcycle crash Wednesday afternoon in St. Johns County resulted in a rider being airlifted to a trauma center and caused traffic disruptions along U.S.-1 near Nocatee.

The crash occurred on U.S.-1 south of County Road 210, near Sterling Plaza Drive and close to Allen D. Nease High School, according to the St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office.

Authorities reported that the crash involved a motorcycle and another vehicle along the busy highway corridor.

Initially, the inside lanes in both directions were closed, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

By the afternoon, at least one northbound lane near Sterling Plaza Drive remained closed while emergency crews worked at the scene.

A spokesperson for St. Johns County Fire Rescue confirmed that one person involved in the crash sustained serious injuries.

The injured victim was transported by helicopter to a local trauma center for emergency treatment.

Officials have not released the identity of the injured rider or details about the driver of the other vehicle involved.

The crash remains under investigation.

U.S.-1 is a major roadway that sees significant daily traffic, particularly near growing residential areas such as Nocatee.

Motorcycle crashes on highways like U.S.-1 often occur due to:

  • Drivers failing to see motorcycles
  • Unsafe lane changes
  • Failure to yield while turning
  • Distracted driving
  • Sudden traffic slowdowns

Because motorcycles provide far less protection than passenger vehicles, riders are at much higher risk of suffering catastrophic injuries in collisions.

Motorcycle crash victims who suffer serious injuries may have the right to pursue compensation if another driver’s negligence contributed to the accident.

Potential damages may include:

  • Emergency medical treatment and trauma care
  • Air ambulance transport
  • Rehabilitation and long-term medical care
  • Lost wages and reduced earning capacity
  • Pain and suffering

Determining fault often involves reviewing police reports, vehicle damage, witness statements, and crash reconstruction evidence.

Authorities continue to investigate the motorcycle crash on U.S.-1 near Sterling Plaza Drive in St. Johns County.
