Miami-Dade Deputies Searching for Two Drivers After Three People Struck During Illegal Street Takeover

Michael T. Flanagan, Esq.

The Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office is searching for two drivers accused of striking three people and fleeing the scene during an illegal street takeover in northwest Miami-Dade.

According to investigators, both drivers left the scene without stopping to help the injured victims, who were transported to a local hospital. The investigation remains ongoing.

What We Know About the Incident

According to the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office, the incident occurred at approximately 3:40 a.m. on July 5, 2026, near the intersection of Northwest 25th Street and Northwest 76th Avenue during an illegal street takeover.

Investigators determined that:

  • A black sedan struck two women who were in the roadway during the street takeover.
  • After the collision, one of the women remained lying in the roadway.
  • Instead of stopping, the driver maneuvered around the injured victim and fled the scene.
  • As a man ran toward the injured woman to provide assistance, he was struck by an older model gold Ford Expedition with a dark gray lower body.
  • Investigators say the Ford Expedition then ran over the woman who was still lying in the roadway before fleeing.

Neither driver stopped to render aid or provide identifying information.

All three victims were transported to a local hospital for treatment. Authorities have not released their current conditions.

Search for the Suspect Vehicles

The Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office is asking the public for assistance in locating both vehicles involved in the incident.

Investigators are searching for:

  • A black sedan involved in the initial collision.
  • An older model gold Ford Expedition with a dark gray lower body involved in the second collision.

Anyone with information regarding either vehicle or driver is encouraged to contact the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office or submit anonymous tips through Crime Stoppers.

Illegal Street Takeovers Continue to Pose Serious Risks

Street takeovers involve groups illegally blocking intersections or roadways so drivers can perform dangerous stunts such as drifting, donuts, burnouts, and racing.

These events place participants, spectators, nearby motorists, pedestrians, and first responders at significant risk of serious injury or death.

Florida has increased penalties for participating in or organizing coordinated street takeovers in an effort to reduce these dangerous incidents.

Potential Criminal Charges

If identified, the drivers could face numerous criminal charges depending on the outcome of the investigation, including:

  • Leaving the scene of a crash involving injury.
  • Leaving the scene of a crash involving serious bodily injury.
  • Reckless driving.
  • Additional charges if investigators determine their actions caused or worsened the victims’ injuries.

Any criminal charges will depend on the evidence gathered during the investigation.

Individuals injured during illegal street takeovers may have the right to pursue compensation through a civil personal injury claim.

Depending on the circumstances, injured victims may be able to seek compensation for:

  • Emergency medical expenses.
  • Future medical treatment and rehabilitation.
  • Lost wages and diminished earning capacity.
  • Pain and suffering.
  • Permanent disability or disfigurement.
  • Emotional distress.

If either driver is identified, they may be held financially responsible for the injuries they allegedly caused.

Victims may also have potential claims through uninsured or underinsured motorist coverage if the at-fault drivers are not located or do not have adequate insurance.

In certain situations, investigators may also examine whether additional parties, such as event organizers or others whose negligent conduct contributed to the incident, bear civil liability. Whether any additional claims exist will depend on the facts developed during the investigation.

Preserving Evidence Is Critical

In serious hit-and-run cases, preserving evidence is often essential to both criminal and civil investigations.

Important evidence may include:

  • Surveillance and traffic camera footage.
  • Cell phone videos recorded by spectators.
  • Vehicle debris recovered from the roadway.
  • Witness statements.
  • Medical records documenting the victims’ injuries.
  • Social media posts or livestreams from the street takeover.

Prompt investigation can help identify responsible parties and preserve evidence before it is lost.

Investigation Continues

The Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate the hit-and-run crashes and is asking anyone with information to come forward.

Additional details, including the identities and conditions of the victims and the identities of the suspected drivers, may be released as the investigation progresses.

Incidents like this demonstrate the serious dangers associated with illegal street takeovers. Our thoughts are with the three individuals who were injured, and we hope each makes a full recovery as investigators work to identify those responsible.
