Man Killed, Another Hospitalized After Motorcycle Crash Near Dolphin Expressway
A tragic motorcycle crash near the Dolphin Expressway left one man dead and another hospitalized on Saturday, according to the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP). The collision occurred on the ramp to eastbound State Road 836 (Dolphin Expressway) from the southbound Florida Turnpike.
FHP investigators reported that two motorcyclists were riding together when one rider failed to negotiate a curve on the exit ramp. He lost control of his motorcycle and struck the guardrail. The impact forcefully redirected the bike, causing it to collide with the second motorcyclist traveling behind him.
The rider who initially hit the guardrail died at the scene. His identity has not yet been publicly released. The second motorcyclist was transported to Kendall HCA Hospital with minor injuries. Authorities have not released his name.
The exit ramp remained closed for several hours as troopers investigated the crash and cleared the roadway.
Motorcycle accidents in Miami-Dade County continue to be among the most severe traffic incidents due to high speeds, sharp highway curves, and heavy congestion around major expressways like SR-836 and the Florida Turnpike. When a rider loses control—especially on an elevated or curved ramp—the consequences can be catastrophic.
Unfortunately, many of these crashes result in:
- Fatal injuries
- Traumatic brain injuries
- Spinal cord damage
- Severe road rash and fractures
Accidents involving multiple motorcyclists often lead to a chain reaction where one rider’s loss of control puts others at risk.
Who May Be Liable in a Motorcycle Accident?
Liability in a motorcycle crash can depend on several factors, including:
- Whether road design or lack of maintenance contributed to the loss of control
- Whether another vehicle, debris, or unexpected hazard forced sudden maneuvering
- Whether a guardrail or ramp structure was defective
- The actions of each rider involved
Even when a rider appears to have lost control, an in-depth investigation may reveal external factors that contributed to the collision.
Florida Highway Patrol’s official report is only the first step. Additional evidence—such as surveillance footage, witness statements, roadway conditions, and motorcycle defect inspections—can provide a fuller understanding of what caused the crash.
Families Deserve Answers After a Fatal Motorcycle Crash
Losing a loved one in a motorcycle accident is devastating, and families often face overwhelming questions:
- What really caused the crash?
- Was the roadway unsafe?
- Could this tragedy have been prevented?
- What rights do surviving family members have?
Under Florida law, families may be able to pursue a wrongful death claim against any party whose negligence contributed to the crash.
Compensation may include:
- Funeral and burial costs
- Loss of financial support
- Loss of companionship
- Mental pain and suffering
- Medical expenses
- And more
The claims process can be complex, especially when multiple riders or roadway structures are involved. Having experienced legal representation ensures that critical evidence is preserved and the full scope of damages is evaluated.
