Man Killed, 8 Injured After Vehicle Slams Into Bus Stop in Northwest Miami-Dade
A tragic crash in northwest Miami-Dade Friday morning left one man dead and eight others injured after a vehicle collided with a bus stop and a small bus, authorities said.
The crash occurred around 9 a.m. at the intersection of Northwest 103rd Street and Northwest 7th Avenue, according to the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office.
Investigators said a silver SUV and a black car collided at the intersection. Following the impact, the black car traveled into a nearby bus stop, striking multiple people who were waiting there before crashing into a small bus.
Authorities identified the man who was killed at the bus stop as 72-year-old Juan De Dios Aguilera Roses. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Witnesses described the violent impact as sounding like an explosion.
“It was like a bomb went off, boom, boom, then you see the debris all flying,” one witness said.
According to Miami-Dade Fire Rescue:
- Eight patients were evaluated at the scene
- Five were transported to local hospitals
- Three declined medical transport
The drivers of both vehicles were among those hospitalized. Several individuals who were aboard the small bus were also injured.
Aerial footage from the scene showed heavy damage to multiple vehicles, with debris scattered across the intersection and into a nearby gas station area.
Traffic homicide detectives are continuing to investigate what led to the collision.
Legal Considerations in Bus Stop and Intersection Crashes
Crashes involving bus stops often result in catastrophic injuries because pedestrians have no protection. In cases like this, investigators will examine:
- Whether either driver failed to yield
- Speed at the time of impact
- Traffic signal compliance
- Distracted or impaired driving
- Intersection design and visibility
When a collision causes a vehicle to leave the roadway and strike pedestrians, liability may extend beyond the initial driver depending on fault and contributing factors.
Potential Civil Claims
In Florida, families of victims killed in crashes may pursue a wrongful death claim to recover damages for:
- Funeral and burial expenses
- Medical costs incurred before death
- Loss of financial support
- Loss of companionship and protection
- Emotional pain and suffering
Injured victims may also seek compensation for:
- Emergency and ongoing medical treatment
- Lost wages
- Permanent disability
- Pain and suffering
Because this crash involved multiple vehicles and pedestrians, a detailed crash reconstruction will likely be necessary to determine liability.
