Kissimmee Woman Killed in Two-Vehicle Crash on Poinciana Boulevard in Osceola County
A tragic early-morning crash in Osceola County claimed the life of a 55-year-old Kissimmee woman and sent three others to the hospital, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The collision happened around 12:20 a.m. Thursday at the intersection of Poinciana Boulevard and Woodmont Boulevard, just north of U.S. 17 near Intercession City — an area that has seen a growing number of serious crashes as traffic increases.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol crash report:
- The victim was a rear-seat passenger in a 2024 Kia Forte.
- The Kia was stopped facing east on Woodmont Boulevard at a stop sign.
- A 24-year-old Kissimmee woman was driving the Kia, with another 24-year-old woman in the front passenger seat.
- As the Kia pulled forward from the stop sign, it failed to yield and entered the southbound lanes of Poinciana Boulevard.
- A 2011 Honda Accord, driven by a 39-year-old Kissimmee man, was traveling south on Poinciana Boulevard and struck the left side of the Kia.
The impact resulted in catastrophic damage to the Kia’s passenger side.
The rear passenger died at the scene, troopers confirmed.
FHP says:
- The driver of the Kia suffered serious injuries and was taken to Osceola Regional Medical Center.
- The front passenger of the Kia also sustained serious injuries and was hospitalized.
- The driver of the Honda had minor injuries and was transported for medical evaluation.
No names have been released at this time.
Intersections controlled by stop signs — especially those along busy roadways like Poinciana Boulevard — present a high risk for severe side-impact collisions. When a driver fails to yield:
- Oncoming motorists have little time to brake or swerve
- Side-impact crashes exert significant force on passengers
- Rear passengers, depending on seat belt use and vehicle structure, face extreme vulnerability
Sadly, these crashes often result in fatalities, particularly during nighttime hours when visibility is reduced.
Who May Be Liable for This Osceola County Crash?
Investigators will assess several factors, including:
- Whether the Kia driver properly stopped and scanned for approaching traffic
- Speed of the Honda at the time of impact
- Lighting and visibility conditions
- Whether passengers were properly restrained
- Any roadway design or signage issues
Because the Kia reportedly failed to yield, the driver may face civil liability for wrongful death and serious injury claims.
What Families Should Do After a Fatal Crash
Losing a loved one suddenly is devastating, and families often feel overwhelmed. After a fatal collision, it’s important to:
✔ Request and preserve the FHP crash report
✔ Obtain medical records and documentation
✔ Avoid speaking to insurance adjusters without legal guidance
✔ Seek legal representation to protect your rights
Side-impact crashes often involve complex fault analysis, and insurance companies frequently attempt to minimize compensation.
