Kissimmee Man Killed in Electric Scooter Crash on Boggy Creek Road

Michael T. Flanagan, Esq.

A tragic accident in Kissimmee, Florida has claimed the life of a 56-year-old man after he lost control of an electric scooter, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The incident highlights growing safety concerns involving motorized scooters and other micro-mobility devices.

What We Know About the Crash

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the crash occurred Saturday afternoon near the intersection of Boggy Creek Road and Fells Cove Boulevard in Osceola County.

Troopers say the 56-year-old Kissimmee man was riding a four-wheel, all-terrain electric scooter eastbound in an inactive construction lane.

For reasons still under investigation, the rider lost control of the scooter and fell.

Emergency responders transported him to UCF Lake Nona Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

No other vehicles were reported to be involved in the crash.

The Risks of Electric Scooter Accidents

Electric scooters, especially all-terrain or high-powered models, can pose significant risks when operated on or near roadways.

Common dangers include:

  • Loss of balance or control
  • Uneven or unstable surfaces, especially in construction zones
  • Limited protective equipment compared to traditional vehicles
  • Reduced visibility to other drivers

Even a fall from a scooter can result in severe or fatal injuries.

Construction Zones and Roadway Hazards

Operating any vehicle—especially a scooter—near construction zones can increase the risk of accidents.

Potential hazards include:

  • Uneven pavement or debris
  • Lane changes or unclear markings
  • Reduced traction
  • Unexpected obstacles

These conditions can make it difficult to maintain control, particularly for smaller vehicles.

Crashes involving electric scooters often raise unique legal questions.

Investigators may examine:

  • Road conditions and construction zone safety
  • Whether the area was properly marked or secured
  • Possible mechanical issues with the scooter
  • External factors that may have contributed to the loss of control

Even in single-vehicle incidents, liability may exist depending on the circumstances.

Wrongful Death Considerations

Under Florida’s Wrongful Death Act, Florida Statutes §§ 768.16–768.26, families who lose a loved one in an accident may have the right to explore legal options.

Potential damages may include:

  • Funeral and burial expenses
  • Loss of financial support
  • Loss of companionship
  • Emotional pain and suffering

Each case must be evaluated individually to determine potential claims.

Investigation Ongoing

The Florida Highway Patrol continues to investigate the crash to determine what caused the rider to lose control.
