What We Know About the Crash
According to reports, the crash occurred on July 14, 2026, along Tamiami Trail in Sarasota.
Authorities have not yet released an official crash report, but those involved said:
- Kelly Bensimon and Andrew Molen were passengers in an Uber.
- The Uber was making a left turn onto Tamiami Trail when it collided head-on with an oncoming vehicle.
- The impact deployed the airbags in both vehicles.
- The force of the collision caused significant damage and sent all involved to the hospital.
The driver of the other vehicle was reportedly transported by ambulance on a stretcher.
Sarasota Police have stated that the crash report remains in progress.
Kelly Bensimon Describes the Crash
Bensimon, a real estate broker and former reality television personality, described the crash as terrifying.
She said she briefly lost consciousness after her head struck the back of the seat during the collision.
According to Bensimon:
- She experienced severe pain in her right arm.
- She underwent X-rays and a CT scan at the hospital.
- She initially feared she had broken her arm.
- She continues to recover from injuries sustained in the crash.
Bensimon later said she felt fortunate to have survived the collision.
Andrew Molen Also Injured
Celebrity chef Andrew Molen was also injured in the crash.

He reported suffering neck injuries and said he was forced to cancel multiple scheduled appearances while recovering.
Molen described the impact as extremely violent, saying both occupants were thrown around inside the vehicle and airbags deployed immediately after the collision.
Investigation Remains Ongoing
At this time, Sarasota Police have not released information regarding:
- Which driver may have had the right-of-way.
- Whether speed contributed to the collision.
- Whether distraction or impairment played a role.
- Whether any citations or criminal charges will be issued.
Investigators will likely review:
- Statements from all drivers and passengers.
- Crash scene evidence.
- Vehicle damage.
- Traffic signal timing.
- Surveillance or traffic camera footage.
- Electronic vehicle data, when available.
The official cause of the crash has not yet been determined.
Potential Legal Options Following an Uber Accident
Individuals injured while riding in an Uber or other rideshare vehicle may have several legal options depending on how the crash occurred.
If another driver’s negligence caused the collision, injured passengers may be entitled to pursue compensation through that driver’s insurance policy.
If the Uber driver was partially or fully at fault, Uber’s commercial insurance coverage may also provide compensation under certain circumstances.
Depending on the facts established during the investigation, injured victims may be able to recover damages for:
- Emergency medical expenses.
- Future medical treatment and rehabilitation.
- Lost wages and diminished earning capacity.
- Pain and suffering.
- Emotional distress.
- Permanent disability or disfigurement.
Because passengers are rarely responsible for causing a collision, they often have the ability to pursue claims against one or more liable parties.
Determining Liability in a Left-Turn Collision
Head-on crashes involving left-turning vehicles often require a detailed investigation.
Depending on the evidence, investigators may evaluate:
- Whether the left-turning driver failed to yield the right-of-way.
- Whether the oncoming vehicle was speeding.
- Whether either driver was distracted or impaired.
- Visibility and roadway conditions.
- Traffic signal operation.
- Witness statements and electronic vehicle data.
Liability cannot be determined until investigators complete their review.
Investigation Continues
Sarasota Police continue to investigate the crash and are expected to release additional information once the official crash report is completed.
Any determination regarding fault, citations, or potential criminal charges will depend on the findings of that investigation.
Wishing Everyone Involved a Full Recovery
