Jacksonville Motorcyclist Killed in Crash at I-295 Ramp on St. Johns Bluff Road
A tragic crash in Jacksonville, Florida claimed the life of a 27-year-old motorcyclist after a collision with a sedan near an Interstate 295 entrance ramp, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The crash occurred at a busy intersection and highlights the risks motorcyclists face when vehicles are turning across their path.
What We Know About the Crash
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the crash happened around 4:13 p.m. on April 27, 2026, at the intersection of St. Johns Bluff Road and the Interstate 295 northbound entrance ramp.
Troopers say both the motorcycle and a sedan were traveling northbound on St. Johns Bluff Road.
As the sedan attempted to make a left turn onto the I-295 entrance ramp, the motorcycle struck the right rear passenger side of the vehicle.
Emergency responders from Jacksonville Fire and Rescue pronounced the 27-year-old motorcyclist dead at the scene.
The driver of the sedan, a 72-year-old Jacksonville man, was not injured.
The crash remains under investigation.
The Dangers of Left-Turn Collisions
Left-turn crashes are one of the most common causes of serious motorcycle accidents.
These crashes often occur when:
- A driver misjudges the speed of an oncoming motorcycle
- A vehicle turns across the path of a rider
- Visibility is limited or obstructed
- Drivers fail to yield the right of way
Motorcycles are smaller and less visible, making these situations particularly dangerous.
Why Motorcyclists Are at Greater Risk
Motorcyclists face a higher risk of severe injury or death due to:
- Lack of structural protection
- Greater likelihood of ejection
- Direct exposure to impact forces
Even collisions that might be survivable in a car can be fatal for a rider.
Legal Considerations in Intersection Crashes
Crashes involving turning vehicles often center around right-of-way violations.
Investigators may examine:
- Whether the turning driver properly yielded
- Speed and positioning of the motorcycle
- Traffic signals and signage
- Visibility and roadway conditions
Determining fault is essential in evaluating potential legal claims.
Wrongful Death Claims Under Florida Law
Under Florida’s Wrongful Death Act, Florida Statutes §§ 768.16–768.26, families who lose a loved one in a crash may have the right to pursue compensation.
Damages may include:
- Funeral and burial expenses
- Loss of financial support
- Loss of companionship
- Emotional pain and suffering
These claims can help families seek accountability and financial recovery.
Investigation Ongoing
The Florida Highway Patrol continues to investigate the crash and determine all contributing factors.
