Gainesville Woman Killed, Four Seriously Injured in Alachua County Crash

Michael T. Flanagan, Esq.

A tragic two-vehicle crash in Alachua County, Florida has left one woman dead and four others seriously injured, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

What We Know About the Crash

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the crash occurred around 8:30 p.m. on May 14, 2026, at the intersection of SE 15th Street and SE 32nd Place, near the exit of Boulware Springs Park in Gainesville.

Investigators report:

  • A 35-year-old Gainesville woman was traveling east and attempting to make a left turn onto SE 15th Street
  • An 18-year-old Gainesville man was traveling south on SE 15th Street
  • The two vehicles collided in the intersection

Fatality and Injuries

Officials confirmed:

  • The 35-year-old woman was pronounced dead at the scene
  • The 18-year-old driver sustained serious injuries
  • Four passengers in his vehicle — two males and two females — also suffered serious injuries
  • All passengers were reportedly wearing seatbelts

All injured individuals were transported for medical treatment.

The Dangers of Intersection Crashes

Intersection collisions are among the most common and dangerous types of accidents.

These crashes often occur due to:

  • Failure to yield the right of way
  • Misjudging the speed or distance of oncoming traffic
  • Limited visibility at intersections

Left-turn accidents, in particular, can lead to severe impacts because drivers must cross opposing lanes of traffic.

Common Causes of Left-Turn Collisions

While the cause of this crash remains under investigation, left-turn crashes are frequently associated with:

  • Drivers turning without a clear gap in traffic
  • Speeding or approaching vehicles
  • Distracted driving
  • Poor lighting or visibility at night

In intersection crashes, investigators typically evaluate:

  • Which driver had the right of way
  • Whether traffic signals or signage were followed
  • Driver speed and attentiveness
  • Road and lighting conditions

Liability will depend on the findings of the investigation.

Wrongful Death and Injury Claims

Families of victims killed in crashes may be entitled to pursue a wrongful death claim.

Compensation may include:

  • Funeral and burial expenses
  • Loss of financial support
  • Emotional pain and suffering

Those injured may also seek compensation for:

  • Medical expenses
  • Rehabilitation costs
  • Lost wages

Investigation Ongoing

The Florida Highway Patrol continues to investigate the crash.
