Four Hospitalized After Scaffolding Collapse at West Palm Beach Construction Site
Four construction workers were hospitalized Thursday morning after a scaffolding collapse at a West Palm Beach construction site, according to authorities.
The incident occurred at a high-rise residential development currently under construction in downtown West Palm Beach.
West Palm Beach Police said the collapse happened around 7 a.m. on February 19, 2026, at the Mr. C Residences construction site in the 300 block of Lakeview Avenue.
According to officials:
- Four individuals were injured in the collapse
- All four were transported to a local hospital
- Initial reports indicated life-threatening injuries
- Authorities later confirmed that three workers were in stable condition
- The condition of the fourth injured person remains unknown
Mr. C Residences is slated to be a 26-story luxury condominium building, according to project information.
The cause of the scaffolding collapse remains under investigation.
Dangers of Scaffolding Failures on Construction Sites
Scaffolding collapses are among the most serious construction site accidents and can lead to catastrophic injuries due to:
- Falls from significant heights
- Structural failure of support systems
- Improper installation or assembly
- Inadequate fall protection
- Overloading of scaffolding platforms
- Defective materials or equipment
Construction sites must follow strict safety regulations under federal and Florida workplace safety laws, including OSHA standards, to protect workers from fall hazards and structural failures.
Common Injuries from Scaffolding Collapses
Scaffolding accidents frequently result in:
- Traumatic brain injuries
- Spinal cord injuries and paralysis
- Multiple fractures
- Internal organ damage
- Permanent disability
When life-threatening injuries are involved, victims may require long-term rehabilitation, surgeries, and ongoing medical care.
Legal Options After a Construction Site Injury
In Florida, injured construction workers may be entitled to:
- Workers’ compensation benefits
- Coverage of medical expenses
- Partial wage replacement
- Disability benefits
However, in some cases, additional claims may be possible beyond workers’ compensation if a third party contributed to the accident, such as:
- General contractors
- Subcontractors
- Equipment manufacturers
- Property owners
- Scaffolding suppliers
These third-party claims may allow injured workers to pursue compensation for pain and suffering and other damages not covered under workers’ compensation.
