A married couple has been arrested and charged with murder following a fatal shooting at an apartment complex in Brandon, Florida, according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office.
The incident occurred at the Lakewood Place apartment complex located in the 1800 block of Lake Chapman Drive on March 10, 2026.

Evictions and the Law in Florida
In Florida, landlords and property owners cannot legally evict tenants by force.
Even when a tenant is behind on rent or violating a lease, eviction must follow a legal court process, which typically involves:
- Providing written notice to the tenant
- Filing an eviction lawsuit in court
- Obtaining a court order for removal
- Having the eviction carried out by law enforcement if necessary
Attempting to remove someone from a residence without following the legal eviction process can lead to serious legal consequences.
When disputes escalate into violence, individuals involved may face severe criminal charges, including homicide.
Legal Issues Surrounding Apartment Complex Violence
Violent incidents in residential communities often raise questions about safety and security within apartment complexes.
Property owners and management companies may sometimes face legal scrutiny if negligent security contributed to a dangerous environment.
Potential factors that may be examined include:
- Prior criminal activity at the property
- Security measures such as cameras or lighting
- Controlled access systems or gates
- Management response to safety complaints
In cases where negligence contributes to violence, victims or their families may have the right to pursue civil claims.
