Five-Vehicle Crash in Clermont Leaves Woman Dead and Two Injured, FHP Says

Michael T. Flanagan, Esq.

A devastating five-car crash on U.S. 27 in Clermont claimed the life of one woman and left two others injured Tuesday evening, according to a release from the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP). The collision, which occurred around 4:56 p.m. at the intersection of U.S. 27 and Greater Groves Boulevard, caused major traffic disruptions and prompted emergency responders to block roads in the area.

Troopers confirmed that five vehicles were involved, including:

  • 2017 Audi A7
  • 2019 Subaru Outback
  • 2015 Lexus RX
  • 2020 Toyota Camry
  • 2023 Honda Civic

The woman driving the Audi suffered critical injuries and was airlifted to a nearby hospital, where she later died. Her identity has not yet been released pending next-of-kin notification.

Two occupants of the Subaru — the driver and a passenger — were transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The remaining drivers were not hospitalized and stayed at the scene to provide statements as investigators worked to determine the sequence of events.

Authorities noted that the cause of the chain-reaction collision remains under investigation, and no additional details have been released at this time.

Crashes involving multiple vehicles often occur during:

  • Peak traffic hours
  • Sudden stops or congestion
  • Improper lane changes
  • Distracted or impaired driving
  • Speeding or aggressive maneuvers

When five vehicles collide, the force of impact compounds quickly, often resulting in fatal injuries, significant vehicle damage, and complex liability questions.

Intersections like U.S. 27 and Greater Groves Boulevard, which carry heavy commuter and residential traffic, are particularly prone to high-impact collisions.

Families who lose a loved one in a Florida car crash may have the right to pursue a wrongful death claim under the Florida Wrongful Death Act (F.S. §§ 768.16–768.26). These claims can provide compensation for:

  • Funeral and burial expenses
  • Loss of financial support and future earnings
  • Loss of companionship and protection
  • Mental pain and suffering for surviving family members
  • Medical expenses incurred before the victim’s passing

In multi-vehicle collisions, establishing liability requires a detailed investigation, including:

  • Crash reconstruction analysis
  • Witness interviews
  • Surveillance or traffic camera footage
  • Event data recorder (“black box”) downloads
  • Expert evaluations on speed, braking, and road conditions

Because Florida follows comparative negligence laws (F.S. § 768.81), insurance companies often attempt to shift blame onto the victim to reduce payouts — making legal representation critical.

The Subaru occupants who were hospitalized may also have claims for:

  • Medical expenses
  • Lost wages
  • Pain and suffering
  • Permanent injuries or impairment
  • Long-term rehabilitation

If one or more drivers acted negligently — such as failing to yield, distracted driving, or speeding — those victims may be entitled to pursue personal injury compensation.

Why Victims Should Contact an Attorney Immediately

Crashes with five vehicles create complicated legal landscapes. Determining who caused the initial impact and how each subsequent collision unfolded often requires:

  • Accident reconstruction specialists
  • Review of FHP reports
  • Preservation of physical evidence
  • Rapid collection of witness statements

Insurance companies may dispute liability or attempt to minimize injuries. An attorney ensures victims and grieving families are not taken advantage of during an already devastating time.
