Michael T. Flanagan, Esq.

A fatal crash in Bradenton, Florida left one person dead and another injured following a two-vehicle collision at a busy intersection Wednesday morning, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The incident remains under investigation as authorities work to determine what led to the crash.

What We Know About the Crash

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the crash occurred around 8:00 a.m. on April 22, 2026, at the intersection of 21st Avenue West and 43rd Street West in west Bradenton.

Troopers confirmed that two vehicles were involved in the collision. One person was pronounced dead at the scene.

Another individual sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to Manatee Memorial Hospital for treatment.

At this time, authorities have not released additional details regarding how the crash occurred or the identities of those involved.

The Dangers of Intersection Collisions

Intersection crashes are among the most common—and often most dangerous—types of motor vehicle accidents.

Common contributing factors include:

  • Failure to yield the right of way
  • Running stop signs or red lights
  • Distracted or inattentive driving
  • Speeding or aggressive driving

These crashes can result in severe or fatal injuries, even at relatively low speeds.

Determining fault in a two-vehicle crash requires a thorough investigation into the actions of each driver.

Key factors may include:

  • Traffic control devices and right-of-way
  • Speed and positioning of each vehicle
  • Eyewitness statements
  • Physical evidence from the scene

Liability is typically assigned based on which party acted negligently or violated traffic laws.

Wrongful Death Claims Under Florida Law

Under Florida’s Wrongful Death Act, Florida Statutes §§ 768.16–768.26, surviving family members may be entitled to pursue compensation if negligence contributed to the fatal crash.

Damages may include:

  • Funeral and burial expenses
  • Loss of financial support
  • Loss of companionship and protection
  • Mental pain and suffering

Even when details are limited, families may still have important legal rights.

Investigation Ongoing

The Florida Highway Patrol continues to investigate the crash to determine what caused the collision.
