Fatal Crash Investigation in Bunnell
A traffic homicide investigation can involve a detailed examination of the roadway, vehicles and other evidence to determine how a fatal collision occurred.
Investigators may document vehicle positions and damage, examine tire marks and debris, interview witnesses, review available surveillance or traffic-camera footage, and evaluate other evidence from the scene.
In serious crashes, investigators may also examine whether factors such as excessive speed, distracted driving, impairment, unsafe passing or another traffic violation contributed to the collision.
However, authorities had not identified any specific contributing factor in the State Road 100 crash as of the initial reports.
Who May Be Liable for a Fatal Florida Car Accident?
When a fatal crash results from another person’s negligence, certain surviving family members may have legal options under Florida’s wrongful death laws.
Liability depends on the specific facts of the collision. For example, a driver may potentially be held responsible if evidence shows that speeding, distracted driving, impairment, failure to yield or another negligent action caused the crash.
Other parties can sometimes share responsibility depending on the circumstances, such as an employer when an at-fault driver was acting within the scope of employment.
A law enforcement investigation and any resulting citations or criminal charges can provide important information, but civil liability is a separate legal issue.
Florida Wrongful Death Claims After a Fatal Crash
Under the Florida Wrongful Death Act, qualifying survivors may be entitled to pursue compensation when a person’s death results from another party’s wrongful act or negligence.
Depending on the circumstances, recoverable damages may include certain lost financial support and services, medical or funeral expenses, and other losses recognized under Florida law.
The damages available depend on factors including the survivor’s relationship to the person who died and the specific circumstances of the case.
Because evidence can disappear and legal deadlines apply, families considering a wrongful death claim may benefit from speaking with a Florida wrongful death attorney about their rights and the evidence that should be preserved.
