Electric Scooter Driver Fatally Injured in Miami Beach Crash Involving Car

Michael T. Flanagan, Esq.

A tragic collision involving an electric scooter and a car resulted in the death of the scooter operator on Wednesday morning, according to Miami Beach Police officials.

The accident occurred just before 10 a.m. near the intersection of 11th Street and Pennsylvania Avenue. Emergency responders transported the scooter driver in critical condition to Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

Aerial footage from Chopper 6 showed the crash scene cordoned off with yellow crime scene tape. A Mercedes sedan was stopped next to a pool of blood, with the electric scooter lodged beneath the front of the vehicle and the car’s windshield shattered. The driver of the Mercedes remained at the scene and is cooperating with authorities.

The identity of the deceased scooter operator has not yet been released. Miami Beach Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the collision.

Electric scooters have become a popular mode of transportation in urban areas like Miami Beach, but accidents involving scooters and motor vehicles can result in serious injuries or fatalities. Victims or their families may have legal rights to pursue compensation, especially if negligence contributed to the crash.

Potential legal claims include:

  • Personal Injury Claims: If you were injured in an electric scooter accident caused by another driver’s negligence, you may recover damages for medical expenses, lost wages, pain and suffering, and more.
  • Wrongful Death Claims: Families of scooter riders killed in accidents may seek compensation for funeral costs, loss of financial support, emotional distress, and other damages.
  • Liability Investigation: Determining fault in scooter accidents can be complex. Investigations often examine factors such as driver distraction, failure to yield, speeding, road conditions, and compliance with traffic laws.

In the aftermath of a serious scooter accident, having an experienced personal injury attorney is crucial to protect your rights. Attorneys can help gather evidence, negotiate with insurance companies, and pursue full compensation for your injuries or loss.

If you or a loved one have been involved in an electric scooter crash in Miami Beach or elsewhere in Florida, don’t hesitate to seek legal advice.
