Driver Killed in Fiery Crash on EPCOT Center Drive in Orange County
A driver was killed early Sunday morning after a fiery single-vehicle crash near EPCOT in Orange County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. Authorities say the crash occurred along EPCOT Center Drive just north of Overpass Road.
The fatal crash took place at approximately 1:22 a.m. on March 15, 2026, prompting an emergency response from law enforcement and first responders.
According to investigators, a 2023 Hyundai Elantra was traveling northbound on EPCOT Center Drive when the driver lost control of the vehicle while approaching a curve in the roadway.
Troopers reported that the vehicle was traveling above the posted speed limit and the driver failed to properly negotiate the curve. As a result, the vehicle ran off the roadway in a northwesterly direction and struck a tree.
The impact caused catastrophic damage to the vehicle. Following the collision, authorities said the car became fully engulfed in flames.
Emergency responders arrived at the scene, but the driver was pronounced dead at the location of the crash.
Officials have not yet released the identity of the victim.
Crashes involving curves in the roadway are often severe, particularly when vehicles are traveling at high speeds. When drivers approach a curve too quickly, they may lose traction or fail to maintain control of the vehicle. This can cause a vehicle to leave the roadway and strike nearby objects such as trees, barriers, or utility poles.
Single-vehicle crashes like this frequently occur when drivers:
- Exceed the posted speed limit
- Misjudge the sharpness of a curve
- Become distracted or fatigued
- Drive under the influence of alcohol or drugs
- Lose control due to roadway or weather conditions
When vehicles leave the roadway at high speeds, the impact with stationary objects can lead to devastating injuries or fatalities.
In fatal crash investigations, the Florida Highway Patrol works to determine the exact sequence of events that led to the collision. Investigators often analyze physical evidence at the scene, vehicle damage, roadway conditions, and witness statements.
Troopers may also review surveillance footage, vehicle data, and toxicology reports to determine whether additional factors contributed to the crash.
Even in single-vehicle crashes, investigators sometimes examine whether external factors such as roadway design, vehicle defects, or mechanical failures may have played a role.
The Florida Highway Patrol continues to investigate the fatal crash that occurred on EPCOT Center Drive near Overpass Road in Orange County.
Authorities have not yet released additional information regarding the driver or any contributing factors beyond speed.
