Driver Airlifted After Multi-Vehicle Crash on Palmetto Expressway in Miami Lakes

A multi-vehicle crash on the Palmetto Expressway in Miami Lakes left at least one person trapped inside a vehicle and resulted in a driver being airlifted to a trauma center Tuesday morning.

The August 18, 2026 crash occurred near the interchange with Gratigny Parkway and prompted authorities to close part of the westbound roadway while emergency crews responded.

What Happened in the Miami Lakes Crash?

According to Miami-Dade Fire Rescue, multiple vehicles were involved in the collision near the Palmetto Expressway and Gratigny Parkway.

Emergency crews arriving at the scene found at least one driver trapped inside a vehicle. Firefighters extricated the driver, who was then airlifted to Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center for treatment.

Authorities did not immediately release the driver’s identity, age or medical condition.

Officials have also not disclosed how many vehicles were involved or whether anyone else was injured.

Gratigny Parkway Closed Following Multi-Vehicle Collision

The crash caused significant traffic disruptions in the Miami Lakes area.

Westbound Gratigny Parkway was closed from Northwest 57th Avenue to the Palmetto Expressway while authorities responded to the collision and investigated the scene.

Traffic traveling toward the Palmetto was forced off the Gratigny, and motorists were advised to find alternate routes.
